According to a survey conducted by a US based organization, International Republican Institute, an overwhelming majority in the country is not in favor of Government policy of attacking Tribal Areas and North West Frontier Province. Eighty six percent people think that country is going in a wrong direction and only 12 percent believe that it is heading towards right direction. In another survey conducted few days ago over 87% people opined that Justice Iftikhar and 60 other Judges unlawfully removed by Musharraf should be restored and C. J. Iftikhar be brought back to head the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Yesterday, illegally appointed Judge Dogar to replace Justice Iftikhar was hooted and booed at his home high Court of Sind, where he came to address lawyers aligned to PPP.
This is a welcome sign. In spite of pursuit of divide and rule policy of the military government, the nation remains united and feels broadly the same. It is due to Barkat of Islam. In the Soviet Union era, efforts were made to remove Islam from hearts of Central Asian countries, for 70 years. But the first opportunity Muslims got, they broke the shackles of slavery and re-started reading Quran, openly. Musharraf regime tried to corrupt the masses by showing vulgar and cheap Indian movies in the cinemas and made TV excessively liberal, but the faith of Islam is ingrained so deep in the hearts of Ummah that it expresses itself the first time it is allowed. Secularism is a façade which the British tried to fool Muslims. Otherwise more than 90 percent of Americans today declare themselves to be religious. And we have witnessed during last 60 years that Indian government exercises worst kind of discrimination against its Muslim citizens and other
minorities. The share of Muslims in the Government institution is hardly 2% whereas their population is between 15 to 20%. Sachar Report clearly spells out the injustice meted out to Muslims, but it was put on back burner and no action was ever taken on it.
The new generation of Pakistanis is intelligent and well informed and realizes that Pakistan is a oasis of opportunity and brotherhood in the desert of hatred and discrimination. Pakistan’s progress and strength can contribute immensely to Ummah’s growth and strength and help it find its due place in the comity of nations. These are no ordinary times. Anti-Islamic forces are gathering together to damage the interests of Muslims. And looking at their plans and consistent propaganda against us, Armageddon does not appear to be a far cry. My Allah guide us to unite in His name so as to be able to get the Divine Succour. Nasrum min Allahe wa fathun qarib.
